Little Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe

"There was an old woman who lived in a shoe, she had so many children she didn't know what to do. She fed them all broth without any bread, whipped them all silently and put them to bed."

A recreation of a mother goose nursery rhyme. In a studio setting with a black back drop, a beauty dish in the front and two back lights.

Little Red from the Hood

For this project I recreated a well known fairy tale. Here I have created a little red from the hood instead of little red riding hood. These were taken in a studio enviorment with a basic light set up including a hair light and a beauty dish coming up from below

"Read, every day, something no one else is reading.
Think, every day, something no one else is thinking.
Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do.
It is bad for the mind to be always part of unanimity."

moving on forward

SO in honor of all the bitching I was doing about my job and money I have made some steps in the right direction. Currently my parents are helping me buy art supplies, my rent has been payed and I no longer have any speeding tickets/parking tickets (well accept for that one due in november) I also do not owe anybody mass amounts money, just money for bills. In two weeks when I can pay all my bills I will finally be ok. Not comfortable or anything but not stressing either. ALSO I WILL be the next shift manager at taco bell. I have been working my ass off there for a year and they just hired a lousy no good manager. He's not gonna work out so I told them i wanted to do it, of course they didn't believe me but I pursued the topic and our agm is gonna work with me to get to where I need to be so I can be the best shift manager there is. Granted its a hell of a lot more work and longer hours but I will be getting paid almost two dollars more which would be lovely. I am determined to be in that position.

ARTISTICLEY speaking I have started shooting for my concept project regarding my family. I think I am starting to understand a bit more about that direction I am trying to take and the areas I do not want to go. I harassed my family all weekend which I quite enjoyed. This weekend its on to my richmond family! For studio I got the a.ok on my proposal, so as of now I am collecting stories that kids have told and recreating them in the studio. 5 different stories, 5 photos, 5 sets, 5 kids. Gotta get started now! All in all I am EXCITED for everything I am about to start and I can't wait to see the end product! oh yea my painting class is coming along, I think I could be a good painter however I hate my digital printing class. its boring to say the least.

Wednesday, August 31

This semester I will tackling the concept of exposing my family. I want to try to capture the essence of everything they are, the things that make me mad, the things I love and so forth. These are a few images from earlier work that are kinda the idea I am going for. I want the most honest and unplanned images. The ones they probably wont be thanking me for

get up up up!

Hurricane Irene has reaked havoc all up and down the coast... for a city that is no where near the cost we got hit pretty decently. trees uprooted, limbs every where, power lines down, cars smashed all that good stuff. The best part about it? Treking through the storm with my room mate and friends. Being in the middle of a natural disaster, feeling the rain and the wind, seeing trees fall and just all the chaos was an awesome reminder that i am indeed alive and well. I SHOULD be happy with my life and who i am. I have a house over my head, food in my kitchen and amazing friends and family who love me more the anything. Im learning that its moments like those that really matter. I wish i had a picture of all of us doing that cause it truely was priceless.

Learning to control my mood swings is another issue that is slowly being tackled. I am learning to hold my tongue and take deep breaths but its hard. so many things set me off like a ticking bomb and one person is particular really knows how to push my buttons and set me off but she is also the first person to snap at me when i catch an attitude. I am trying to work out on a regular basis, getting up earlier then normal or when ever i have free time. its a trial and error kinda thing. trying to kick this depression mood swing phase of mine in the butt, so far? BABY STEPS

$$$$$$

Gotta love that moment when you realize the thing you were most excited for suddenly turns into that thing you dread the most. Being an art student has many up and downs but right now the biggest down of all of it would be the money. Working full time only making minimum wage and being a photo major with rent and utilities to pay IS NOT EASY. I am always behind on some bill and im always in some financial hole. There is no way out when your parents can't do a simple task, like give you forms that would allow the school to give you lots of money so you wouldn't have these problems.

I had my first class of the semester and of course it was painting. I have to buy an entire oil paint set plus canvases and brushes and lord knows what else, im looking at a good $100 right there. On top of the good $200 that i get to spend on photo supplies, oh plus how ever much i get to spend on text books..... OH AND ALL MY BILLS! wtf, i think its high time to just drop out... all the forces are against me being here in school, some one obviously doens't want me surviving/thriving on my own -_-

the option of a second job isn't even an option... with four studio classes and a literature class plus 40 hours of night shift the little spare time i have will be dedicated to get my fat ass in shape and producing bomb ass photography because I am determined that this will be my best year portfolio wise and I WILL go to peru for the one month summer exchange problem! these are my goals and I will meet them. AGAINST ALL ODDS, even these stupid money odds.... just need my parents to get on the same note as me and understand that I am seriously struggling and they are not making it any easier

All Hail the Doodle

Every kid doodles when they get bored, Every art student has pages and pages of thoughtless scribbles across hundreds of pieces of paper. Most people consider the doodle worthless and useless but this brings new light to the simple scrawls of ink. A doodle is a way to brain storm, to pass time, map out blue prints for grander ideas. The stepping stones of brilliance. I encourage every one to doodle and doodle to your hearts content.

part 1 digital final

inspired by the cubism project, my final project will consist of 3 images that I have layered and manipulated to create this ghostly looking image, this is the first one in the series.

Monday, April 25

Childerns

These pictures have the same lighting set up but i used a warming gel to cover the light so the images wouldn't look so sterile. The image with just a light on the back of him consisted of me just turning off the beauty dish and capturing the light illuminating the back of him. Its probably my favorite image because it appears to glorify the soldier

Military Man

These are some of the better images from my recent studio shoot. these images have a beauty dish flashing up from the center bottom to create a harsh light that highlights all the detail in his face, the set up also consisted of two back lights, one coming in from each side.

Louie Palu

My inspiration for my newest studio assignment. Louie Palu photographed these soldiers over in Iraq during the single moments of quite reflection times. I saw these and was immediately inspired. My boyfriend of over a year has just returned from Iraq, he was there for about a year. I'd like to photograph him in the studio while he talks about his experience to see what kind of emotions I can provoke.
